Miami-Dade County regulates for-hire limousines on a countywide basis under Chapter 31, Article VI of the County Code. Limousines are not equipped with meters and are dispatched from one central business location. Service must be pre-arranged which means; a written, electronic or telephone reservation made in advance by the person requesting service for the provision of limousine service.
Any person or business wishing to provide for-hire limousine transportation in Miami-Dade County must first obtain proper licenses for each limousine to be operated. Miami-Dade County offers various limousine license categories often used by the limousine industry which include luxury sedans, SUV’s, stretch, limo vans, ancient, antique, and collectible vehicles.
All vehicles placed into service must be inspected and operators must first obtain a chauffeur’s license prior to operating a for-hire hire limousine.
Beginning September 1, 2022, Miami-Dade County will begin issuing new luxury sedan for-hire licenses with no limitations to qualified applicants.
The Limousine For-Hire License Application is reviewed for compliance with the regulations of the Miami-Dade County Code which requires, among other things, that the applicant passes a background check including scrutiny of his/her financial and criminal history. This process typically takes two to four weeks depending on how complete the application is at time of submission.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) defines a luxury limousine sedan or luxury sedan as a non-metered, sedan or sport utility vehicle (SUV) that has a Manufacture Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $45,000.00 or higher and has not had the manufacturer wheelbase modified.
In addition, SUVs shall not exceed 136” wheelbase or have a seating capacity greater than (9) nine passengers. Vehicles with a lower MSRP will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Vehicles shall not be older than (10) ten model years of age.
The For-Hire application fees are non-refundable, unless otherwise stated, and are separate from the annual license fee, inspection fees and Local Business Tax Receipt which will be required upon approval.
Cash payment are not accepted. Application fees can be paid by check, money order or cashier’s check made payable to the Miami-Dade County. We also accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express.
You will need a Local Business Tax issued by Miami-Dade County.
Depending on where the company is located, you may also need a municipal license.
Furthermore, prior to beginning operations, vehicles must obtain valid inspection and operating permit decals issued by the Vehicle Inspection Station.
Drivers of these vehicles must each have a valid chauffeur registration.
The Limousine Advisory Group (LAG) provides input on various issues relating to the limousine industry. LAG is comprised of consumer and industry representatives, transportation-related interests, municipalities, and public interest organizations. Duties include developing, implementing, and evaluating new innovative services, service expansion and improvements.
To provide for-hire limousine services you must first obtain a for-hire limousine license.
