The Poll Worker Post

Supervisor of Elections' Message

Dear Proud Poll Worker,

Congratulations and a heartfelt thank you for all you did to ensure a successful Election Day for the Presidential Preference Primary Election (PPP) on March 19th. It is because of you that our voters were served fairly, accurately, transparently, and with ease.

If you are a returning poll worker, you know it has been 16 months since our last countywide election (November 8, 2022, General Election), so the PPP was a great way to kick off 2024, refresh your skills, and be ready for what is to come!  As a reminder, this was the first of three countywide elections this year, so lots to be excited about in the year ahead. We hope and encourage you to continue working with us, as you are a vital part of the Elections Department Family and your experience at the polls will be even more crucial in the elections ahead as interest and participation continues to increase.

If you are one of the nearly 150 new poll workers who served for the first time in the PPP, thank you so much for joining the team and being part of this important process. I hope you enjoyed your experience and feel the same pride I do in facilitating democracy for Miami-Dade voters, and therefore I hope you will also continue to serve in the upcoming elections. We need you this year!

To give you a little insight as to what is happening here within the Department, planning for the August 20th Primary Election and November 5th General Election is well underway. We are taking every opportunity to provide voter education, candidates are submitting their paperwork to run for office, we are conducting maintenance on the equipment, confirming voting locations, updating the poll worker training manuals, and so much more. You will see some minimal updates when you come back for training due to changes at the state level. One thing I know you will be very happy to hear, due to feedback I have personally received from some of you, is that we are hopeful we will be able to replace the scanners at the check-in stations in time for the Primary Election!

Poll Worker training will begin again on June 20th for the Primary Election at various locations throughout the community. The Poll Worker Scheduling Section will begin reaching out to schedule you for training beginning on June 10th. I always suggest you attend training as early as possible. This will help ensure you are placed in the polling location of your preference and/or near your home.

Lastly, as part of our extended Elections family, I hope you will help us by encouraging your family and friends to come and work with us. Whether as an Election Day poll worker or a longer commitment as a temporary worker at the Department, we need civic-minded, committed people in many capacities with all skill sets.

Wishing you a safe and happy spring season with your family.  Looking forward to welcoming you back in June.

Best Regards,
