TITLE RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF NORTH MIAMI CODESIGNATION OF NE 121ST STREET FROM NORTH BAYSHORE DRIVE TO NE 122ND ROAD AS ''RABBI JORY LANG WAY'' BODY WHEREAS, on October 22, 2013 the Mayor and City Council of the City of North Miami adopted Resolution No. R-2013-127, which codesignated NE 121st Street from North Bayshore Drive to NE 122nd Road as ''Rabbi Jory Lang Way'' or ''Rabbi Jory Lang Street,'' in recognition of the contributions of Rabbi Lang to the City of North Miami, a copy of which is attached and incorporated by reference; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Dr. Jory Lang has served as spiritual leader of Beth Moshe Congregation in North Miami since 1989; and WHEREAS, prior to serving at Beth Moshe Congregation, Rabbi Lang served the Beth El Congregation of North Bay Village and was the Executive Director of the Talmudic University of Florida, the largest Yeshiva in the southeastern United States; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Lang earned a B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Miami, an M.A. in Judaic Studies from Barry University, an M.A. in Talmudic Studies from the Talmudic University of Florida, a Doctorate in Pastoral Counseling from Sinai University in Jerusalem, and a Doctor of Ministry from the Florida Center for Theological Studies; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Lang is the founder and President of the Chessed Foundation, a well-respected charitable organization that provides pastoral counseling, group therapy, medical assistance, food and funds for those in need; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Lang is also a founding member of MORISHA, the rabbinic fellowship of the Union for traditional Judaism; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Lang served as the first Chaplain for the City of North Miami Police Department, and was the first Rabbi in 70 years to serve two consecutive terms as the President of the Rabbinic Association of South Florida; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Lang was named by the United Jewish Community (UJC) General Assembly as one of the top 25 Rabbis who has made a significant impact in his or her community and across North America; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Lang recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the North Miami Mayor�s Committee; and WHEREAS, Rabbi Lang continues to serve the Beth Moshe Congregation and the surrounding community in North Miami; and WHEREAS, this Board would like to honor Rabbi Dr. Jory Lang by approving this codesignation; and WHEREAS, NE 121st Street from North Bayshore Drive to NE 122nd Road is a city street located in the City of North Miami; and WHEREAS, the City of North Miami wants the County to install signage indicating this codesignation on County street signs and traffic signal masts arms; and WHEREAS, this codesignation is located in County Commission District 4, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. Approves the City of North Miami codesignation of NE 121st Street from North Bayshore Drive to NE 122nd Road as ''Rabbi Jory Lang Way.'' Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to send certified copies of this Resolution to the City Manager of the City of North Miami, the City of North Miami Police Department, the United States Postal Service, the Miami-Dade County Fire-Rescue Department, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works and Waste Management Department, and the Development Services Division of the Regulatory and Economic Resources Department. |
