REPORT: | NFirst County Attorney Abigail Price Williams indicated a motion was in order to add the foregoing proposed resolution to the agenda. It was moved by Commissioner Moss that the foregoing proposed resolution be added to today’s (6/30) agenda. This motion was seconded by Chairman Monestime, and upon being put to a vote passed by a vote of 13-0. Hearing no further questions or comments, the Board proceeded to vote on the foregoing proposed resolution, as presented. Note: The foregoing proposed resolution was adopted on July 1, 2015. | ||||||

TITLE RESOLUTION CONDEMNING DONALD TRUMP�S RECENT RACIST AND DEROGATORY REMARKS ABOUT IMMIGRANTS BODY WHEREAS, on June 16, 2015, business magnate Donald Trump, chairman and president of The Trump Organization and founder of Trump Entertainment Resorts, announced his candidacy for the United States presidency at Trump Tower in New York City; and WHEREAS, during his announcement speech, Donald Trump made several racist and derogatory remarks about immigrants, referring specifically to Mexican immigrants as drug smugglers, criminals and rapists, and blaming Mexico for many of the problems in the United States; and WHEERAS, Donald Trump�s remarks included, �When Mexico sends its people, they�re not sending their best. . . . They�re sending people that have lots of problems, and they�re bringing those problems. They�re bringing drugs, they�re bringing crime, they�re rapists, and some, I assume, are good people.�; and WHEREAS, in response to Donald Trump�s immigration remarks, on June 25, 2015, Univisi�n, the largest Spanish-language broadcaster in the United States, announced that it was ending its business relationship with the Miss Universe organization and part-owner Donald Trump; and WHEREAS, on June 29, 2015, NBCUniversal also announced that it would be ending its business relationship with Donald Trump due to his immigration comments, and as a result would no longer air the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants that were part of a joint venture with Trump; and WHEREAS, this Board recognizes and appreciates the enormous contributions that immigrants have made to our community and the United States as a whole; and WHEREAS, this Board condemns Donald Trump�s recent racist and derogatory remarks about immigrants, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board: Section 1. Condemns Donald Trump�s recent racist and derogatory remarks about immigrants. Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to send a certified copy of this Resolution to the President and CEO of NBCUniversal, the President and CEO of Univisi�n, and Donald Trump. |
