The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating a police involved shooting that resulted in one subject wounded.
According to investigators, a Fish and Wildlife Conservation (FWC) officer, along with several drivers were traveling southbound on US-1 (MM114), and encountered an overturned vehicle submerged in the water. The driver was assisted back to land by the FWC officer and the good samaritan's. The FWC officer requested Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, and approached the driver in an attempt to render aid. The driver was uncooperative, and began to walk away from the scene. The FWC officer requested additional units for assistance, and two Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) officers responded. As the MDPD officers approached the male in an attempt to assist him, the male reached and grabbed one of the officers Electronic Control Device (ECD). The male was able to remove the ECD from the officer's holster, pointed the ECD at one of the officers, and shots were fired. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Airlifted the male to Jackson South Hospital, where he is listed in good condition.
One officer has been with the Miami-Dade Police Department for 8 years, the second Officer is a 27 year veteran. Neither Officer was injured during the incident.
