Special Transportation Service (STS)

The following enhancements have been implemented to improve the STS program's service and reliability:

• Extended service hours for trip reservations: 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. Call 305-871-1111 / TTY Users: 800-955-8771 or 711
• Stand-by vehicles added to minimize service delays during peak times
• Personnel added to monitor service and minimize delays
• Negotiated pickup times - the ADA allows scheduling flexibility up to one hour before or after the requested time to improve operational efficiencies.

Who is eligible for STS?

• Miami-Dade County residents whose physical or mental disability prevents them from using accessible public transportation (Metrobus, Metrorail, or Metromover) independently.
• Miami-Dade County residents with temporary disabilities are eligible for STS during the period of their disability.
• People with disabilities from out-of-town that are presumed eligible under ADA jurisdiction.

Print and complete the application. A Florida Licensed Physician must complete and sign the STS application. Send the STS application with all medical documentation to the STS certification office via:

Determination of eligibility will be provided via regular mail within 21 days. 

The fee is $3.50 per one-way trip, as well as for companions. Personal Care Attendants ride free and must be pre-certified.

Prepaid vouchers can also be purchased in advance by calling the STS Reservations Line. 

Certified STS riders can use Metrobus and Metrorail free of charge.

If denied eligibility, you can appeal by mail within 60 days to the Office of Civil Rights and Labor Relations.

Submitting additional medical documentation does not constitute a request for appeal.
