Special Transportation Service (STS)
If you have a disability, as classified by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), that prevents you from using regular transit services (Metrobus, Metrorail, Metromover), you may be eligible for Special Transportation Service (STS).
Accommodations for Circuit Court
If you are a person with a disability who needs assistance in order to participate in a program or service of the Court, contact the ADA Coordinator.
Free Cell Phones for Emergencies
The Dial-a-Life program collects used cell phones and reprograms them so that at-risk disabled residents can call 9-1-1 for emergency assistance.
Complaints about County Services and Programs
If you have been discriminated on the basis of disability, contact the Office of ADA Coordination. They are responsible for coordinating the County’s grievance procedure and serve as the conduit between the grievant and the department against whom the complaint is made.
Sign Language Interpreters for County Meetings and Materials in Accessible Format
To obtain a sign language interpreter for a Miami-Dade County meeting or for an appointment with Miami-Dade County staff call the person arranging the meeting or appointment at least five days in advance. To obtain Miami-Dade County materials in accessible format, call the provider of the materials at least five days in advance.
Library Service for the Homebound Connections: Library Service for the Homebound provides books-by-mail service to individuals of all ages unable to visit the library in person due to chronic illness, physical disability and frailties of age. Special outreach programming services to facilities and groups who serve the elderly are also available.
Talking Books The Talking Books Library loans books and magazines on cassette tapes or in Braille FREE by mail to persons who have difficulty seeing or using standard small print.
Assistive Technology Assistive Technology refers to the special services and assistive devices the library offers to help make it possible for a person with a visual, hearing or speech impairment to access materials, equipment and services.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens welcomes all visitors and their service animals, and is committed to offering accessible facilities and full and rich experiences.
Campground at Greynolds
Camp Greynolds is ADA accessible, available for rental evening and weekend overnight group stays.
Beach Wheelchairs / Surf Chairs
To assist those who are mobility impaired, special beach wheelchairs, have been placed at beach areas.

Adult Day Care Miami-Dade County's Department of Human Services (DHS) provides adult day care for the frail, moderately handicapped or moderately confused older person or disabled adult over 18 years of age.
Child Care Provider Assistance The Inclusion Program provides support, training and technical assistance to child care providers in order to promote the inclusion of all children with special needs in Florida child care and early education network.
Disability Services for the Elderly Miami-Dade County's Department of Human Services (DHS) provides assistance to individuals with disabilities.
Elderly Care Planning The Department of Human Services (DHS) and other community organizations provide case management for elderly and clients with disabilities.
Elderly Home Care Program Miami-Dade County (DHS) provides homemaker, personal care and chore services to the elderly and disabled.
Farmworker Program Mental and physical restoration, employment and training services for disabled migrant and seasonal farm workers.
Parking Enforcement Program Volunteer parking specialists assist the Miami-Dade Police Department in the enforcement of disabled parking spaces and baby stroller spaces.

Disability Benefits
If County employees become disabled during the performance of their job, they may be eligible for disability benefits.
Disability Insurance
Disability Insurance Plans provide you with a weekly or monthly income if you become disabled. You may choose short-term or long-term disability insurance, or both to secure your source of income, should you become disabled.

The Florida Retirement System (FRS), provides Miami-Dade County employees with a disability retirement benefit should they become totally and permanently disabled.

The Commission on Disability Issues (CODI)
The primary role of CODI is to advise the County Commission on County government issues that affect people with disabilities. The County Commission may refer items to CODI for advice. Alternatively, CODI may choose to address the Board, or forward opinions or recommendations to the Board on issues that it considers important. Web Accessibility Policy
Miami-Dade County citizens, businesses, visitors and employees utilize the web as an important resource for state information and services. People with visual, hearing, physical, cognitive, or neurological disabilities are unable to fully access the web. In order for all persons to be able to fully access online information and services, it is necessary to incorporate guidelines for accessibility into web page design.
Voters with Special Needs
The Voting Accessibility for the Elderly and Handicapped Act of 1984 requires polling places to be physically accessible to people with disabilities for federal elections.

All Miami-Dade Transit buses are now wheelchair-accessible. Look for the international accessibility symbol on the front and side of the bus. If any barrier prevents your approaching the bus stop in a wheelchair or interferes with boarding, report the problem at 305-654-6586, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Airport Accessible Transit Service
All Metrobus vehicles are accessible to people with disabilities. However, some bus stops may not be accessible. During your visit, if you encounter a barrier that prevents your approach to the bus stop in a wheelchair or interferes with boarding or exiting the bus, call 305-654-6586, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Appealing Denial of Access to STS
Applicants who have been denied access to STS have 60 calendar days after their denial to file an appeal or request a review hearing.
Metrobus Reduced-Fare Permits
Most residents and visitors with disabilities and local youth in grades 1-12 can ride Metrobus at the 75-cent reduced fare. Simply show the operator a valid Metrobus reduced-fare permit to ride at the reduced fare.
Metrorail Reduced-Fare Permits
The Metrorail reduced fare is 75 cents, and Metromover is free. You must use a Metrorail reduced-fare permit to ride at the reduced fare.

Parking Permits
Permits are available from the State of Florida for individuals with permanent or temporary disabilites and organizations that provide transportation to the disabled.

Transit Service Centers
Thanks to the People’s Transportation Plan (PTP), Miami-Dade Transit now offers a full range of transportation services at several community-based centers throughout the county.
Tri-Rail
All Tri-Rail trains and stations are accessible to persons with disabilities. All connecting Tri-Rail shuttle buses in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, and all Palm Tran buses in Palm Beach County, are equipped with wheelchair lifts.
Wheelchair Accessible Cab (WAC) Service
All wheelchair accessible cabs are modified and equipped to facilitate the transportation of wheelchairs and other Vehicles' used by persons with mobility impairments. Additionally, drivers are trained and certified in the safe and proper methods of securing and transporting passengers who use wheelchairs.
