MIAMI – On June 4, 2022, Miami-Dade County’s Black Affairs Advisory Board honored Jason Jenkins, former Miami Dolphins Senior Vice President of Communications and Community Affairs, with this year’s Corporate Pillar Award. As news of Jason Jenkins untimely death surfaced on the night of Saturday, August 27, board members reached out to Program Director Retha Boone Fye sharing thoughts of profound pain for the loss of a community hero.
"On Saturday, a wife lost her husband, children lost their father, and the Community lost a coalition builder,” said Black Affairs Advisory Board Chairman Pierre Rutledge. “Mr. Jason Jenkins, thank you for your tireless efforts for us."
During the Pillar Awards Ceremony, when it was Jason Jenkins turn to accept his award, he said: “I am a man of God, faith, and I know I needed to be here today. I thank the Black Affairs Board and the Heritage Planning Committee for your intentional impact around youth, education, and serving our community. We are proud of our scholarship program and our program called Football Unites, as we believe that sports can be a positive beacon for social change, improve relationships, foster understanding among different groups, and experiences in South Florida Culture.” – listen to the full audio on our @AdvocacyMDC Facebook page YouTube channel.
