Marlins Adopt-O-Mania Pet Adoption Event hits 140 home runs, right into pet lover's hearts
(MIAMI, June 15, 2015) – A record-breaking 140 dogs and cats from Miami-Dade County Animal Services and Humane Society of Greater Miami “reached home” with forever loving families during the June 13, 2015 Marlins Ayudan Adopt-O-Mania and Bark at the Park event.
Adopters lined up even before the 10 a.m. start time and were met with lots of loveable pet "recruits," which included puppies, adult dogs big and small, cats and kittens to add to their family home team. Fees were reduced by 50 percent and all pets adopted came spayed or neutered, licensed, vaccinated and microchipped. In addition, adopters received complimentary tickets for themselves and their new furry mascot to witness that day’s Miami Marlins victory over the Colorado Rockies.
With help from Animal Services Director Alex Muñoz, a Labrador retriever named, Oxford representing Miami-Dade County Animal Services threw the first pitch with Billy The Marlin acting as catcher. Oxford did his best, but preferred returning the ball to his owner and leaving Billy in the dust, glove in hand, making for a cute dog moment.
“We are very grateful to our community for coming out to adopt a family pet and making this the most successful Adopt-O-Mania event ever," said Claude Delorme, Marlins Executive Vice President of Operations and Events. “Big thanks go out as well to the Miami Marlins, the Marlins Ayudan Team of volunteers, and to our own wonderful team of volunteers for putting together a record-breaking event,” added Alex Muñoz Director of Animal Services.
In addition to pet adoptions 46 family pets received free spay/neuter surgery and 73 free vaccines were given to pets brought in by their human family member.
