Outgoing County Commissioners to be honored at farewell ceremony on Nov. 18

MIAMI-DADE – A farewell ceremony for the outgoing County Commissioners will take place on Friday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. at the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay, Grand Ballroom, 3rd floor, 1633 N. Bayshore Dr., Miami, FL 33132. Media representatives are asked to arrive early for setup.

This ceremony will honor the public service of Chairman Jose “Pepe” Diaz, Commissioner Jean Monestime, Commissioner Sally A. Heyman, Commissioner Rebeca Sosa, and Commissioner Javier D. Souto. It will be hosted by Vice Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III, and the featured emcee will be Miami-Dade County’s Chief External Affairs Officer, Juan Mendieta.

Chairman Diaz, who represents District 12, was unanimously elected to serve as Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners in November 2020. He was first elected as a County Commissioner in September 2002. He also served as the Vice Chairman of the Board from 2009 to 2010.

Commissioner Monestime was first elected to represent District 2 in November 2010. In November 2014, he was chosen unanimously to serve as Chairman of the Board for two years. He currently serves as Chair of the Public Housing and Community Services Committee (PHCSC).

Commissioner Heyman was first elected to represent District 4 in September 2002. She currently serves as Chair of the Community Safety and Security Committee (CSSC).

Commissioner Sosa has served as the District 6 Commissioner since June 2001. In November 2012, she was chosen to serve as the first Hispanic female Chairwoman of the Board. She currently serves as the Chair of the PortMiami and Environmental Resilience Committee (PRC).

Commissioner Souto has represented District 10 since April 1993. He currently serves as Chair of the Recreation and Culture Committee (RCC) and as Vice Chair of the PortMiami and Environmental Resilience Committee (PRC).
