Chairman Gilbert and Vice Chairman Rodriguez to be installed in ceremony at Hard Rock Stadium on Dec. 15
MIAMI-DADE – Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III, Miami-Dade County Commissioner for District 1, along with Vice Chairman Anthony Rodriguez, who represents District 10, will be installed as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 4 p.m. at Hard Rock Stadium, 347 Don Shula Drive, Miami Gardens, FL 33056.
Chairman Gilbert was unanimously elected to serve as Chairman by his fellow Commissioners at the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Chairman Gilbert began serving on the Board of County Commissioners on Nov. 17, 2020, after serving as the Mayor of Miami Gardens for eight years.
During his two-year term, the Chairman will preside over all the Board of County Commissioners meetings and will appoint the chairpersons, vice chairpersons, and members of all commission committees. Additionally, nine Board offices will be overseen by Chairman Gilbert to include Commission Auditor, Intergovernmental Affairs, the Jay Malina International Trade Consortium of Miami-Dade County, Policy and Budgetary Affairs, Community Advocacy, Agenda Coordination, Protocol, BCC Media, and Support Staff Services.
Vice Chairman Rodriguez was elected in an 8-5 vote during the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 6 to serve as Vice Chairman. He recently took office as a County Commissioner on Nov. 22, 2022. He brings his experience from the Florida House of Representatives to the role.
The installation ceremony is free and open to the public. Former television journalist, Brian Andrews, will serve as the emcee for the ceremony.
