MIAMI-DADE – Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III, provided 200 free laptops to high school seniors as they prepare to get ready for college this year during the 16th Annual Laptop Giveaway on Saturday, June 1, at the District 1 Office in Miami Gardens.

The annual laptop giveaway is a deeply personal initiative for Chairman Gilbert, one that he began during his tenure as a City Councilman of Miami Gardens. It all started when a student, in a heartfelt plea, reached out to him in need of a laptop for college. Her family, unfortunately, could not afford to purchase one. Touched by her story, Chairman Gilbert made a commitment to extend financial aid by providing laptops to students from four schools, Miami Carol City Senior High School, Miami Norland Senior High School, Miami Northwestern Senior High School, and Dr. Michael Krop Senior High School. He aims to ensure our community's youth have the essential tools to continue their education and achieve great things.

“If you keep working, we will keep helping you. We understand that your success is our success. Your success as an individual is our success as a community. It’s important to help these kids continue their education, helping them become whatever they want to be,” said Chairman Gilbert. “If they’re willing to keep working, we should be willing to facilitate their success. I’m invested in that, my office is invested in that, and the community is invested in that.”
