Commissioner Oliver G. Gilbert, III Leads Historic Recognition for The Divine Nine

MIAMI-DADE – Commissioner Oliver G. Gilbert, III completed Miami-Dade County’s efforts to become the first County in the United States to recognize each fraternity and sorority that comprise the Divine Nine with a road named in their honor.

The Divine Nine encompasses nine historically Black fraternities and sororities that have been integral in shaping the social, educational, and cultural landscapes of America since their inception. This milestone recognizes the longstanding contributions of these organizations to education, leadership, service, and cultural development both locally and nationally.

“As a proud member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, it is an honor to lead the effort to recognize the Divine Nine with road dedications throughout my hometown, the City of Miami Gardens,” said Commissioner Gilbert. “Our city is a vibrant hub of culture, history, and progress, and this recognition is a testament to the Divine Nine’s profound impact on shaping our nation’s history and future.”

These road designations, conducted in partnership with City of Miami Gardens Councilman Reggie Leon, celebrate the contributions of the Divine Nine and will serve as a permanent reminder of their invaluable service and contributions to others.
