Miami-Dade County to celebrate International Day of Peace on Sept. 21
(MIAMI, FL) – The Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board and Youth Commission, joined by community leaders and organizations, will celebrate International Day of Peace on Monday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Miami-Dade Peace Pole at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, 2000 Convention Center Dr., Miami Beach, FL 33139. Members of the public are invited to attend.
Participants will include elected leaders and representatives from Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami Beach, the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, MCCJ, the Asian American Advisory Board, and Gandhi Square, as well as students from Miami Beach Senior High School, Dr. Michael M. Krop High School and Nautilus Middle School.
The event will feature a peace march, student dance, art and music showcases emphasizing the peace message, youth dialogues and other activities aimed at promoting the ideals of peace, communication and better understanding among diverse populations.
International Day of Peace, which was first commemorated in 1981, was established by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly. The theme for the 2015 commemoration of International Day of Peace is “Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All.”
