MIAMI-DADE – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Golden Glades Multimodal Transportation Facility (GGMTF) on Friday, March 4. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), in partnership with Miami-Dade County, began construction on this $60 million dollar facility in December 2018. Commissioner Monestime sponsored several pieces of legislation for this project. Most recently, at the Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization meeting on Thursday, March 2, he sponsored legislation for a bicycle and pedestrian bridge, which will connect the facility to the east side of the Golden Glades interchange.

Commissioner Monestime attended the event with his mother-in-law, Mrs. Marie Myrthil, a user of public transportation for over 40 years, who is very excited about this improvement for the community.

“I am honored to be a part of the completion and opening of the Golden Glades Multimodal Transportation Facility. Mass transit and our transportation infrastructure are economic equalizers, improving the livelihood of residents and stakeholders, not just in the District 2 community, but for all who reside in Miami-Dade County,” said Commissioner Monestime.

This new, modern facility will improve connectivity between various transportation modes, such as Miami-Dade Transit (MDT), Broward County Transit (BCT), and ride-share services. It will also increase accessibility, capacity, and security for commuters. It includes a covered walkway to the parking lot, electric vehicle charging stations, and direct access to the Tri-Rail station from the new parking garage. In addition, it will include a designated pick-up and drop-off area for ride-share and taxi passengers. It also includes a new designated waiting area with restrooms and vending machines.

A request for proposal will soon be released to award a concession management agreement for the development of more than 10,000 square feet of unfinished space, with a requirement that at least 20% of products and services are provided by locally owned businesses.
