Commissioner Eileen Higgins invited to testify before the U.S. House Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth regarding infrastructure dollars
MIAMI-DADE – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins, District 5, will testify before the U.S. House Select Committee on Economic Disparity and Fairness in Growth (https://fairgrowth.house.gov) on the importance of physical infrastructure investment in creating long-term economic prosperity on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2167, 45 Independence Ave. SW, Washington, DC 20515.
Titled “Connecting Americans to Prosperity: How Infrastructure Can Bolster Inclusive Economic Growth,” Commissioner Higgins will highlight how infrastructure investment can enhance physical and social mobility through the development of affordable housing near public transit, recommend areas where the federal government can accelerate implementation by removing bureaucratic barriers, and showcase the effectiveness of counties in leveraging federal resources.
“Miami-Dade County is eager to work with federal partners on infrastructure projects that will create literal paths to prosperity,” said Commissioner Higgins. “Strong intergovernmental partnerships that prioritize local decision making and the removal of bureaucratic barriers to accessing federal funds are how we speed up implementation of critical infrastructure in our community, like expanding public transit that connects low-income residents to good jobs and building affordable housing near those transit lines.”
