Commissioner Eileen Higgins to launch the 2023 District 5 Mom and Pop Small Business Grant Program
Press conference begins promptly at 11 a.m.
MIAMI-DADE – To kick off National Small Business Week, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins, District 5, will host a press conference at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2023, at Suazo’s Barbershop – 2152 NW 7th St., Miami, FL 33125 with local organizations and small business owners to launch the 2023 District 5 Mom and Pop Small Business Grant Program. Eligible small businesses will receive up to $5,000 for their business.
Each year, the program is tailored to address specific hardships currently faced by small businesses. In 2018, the program was activated to help businesses impacted by the construction on the West Flagler Street corridor. Since 2020, program funds have been used for businesses impacted by the pandemic. Last year, over 90 businesses received District 5 Mom and Pop grants to help them purchase equipment, supplies, advertising/marketing, inventory, building liability insurance, security systems, and make minor renovations. This year, we anticipate awarding up to $300,000 to District 5 businesses.
