Unveiling of “SHOT: We the Mothers Miami” Exhibition Against Gun Violence
Join County and City Public Officials, acclaimed photographer Kathy Shorr, and Miami’s Mothers in Unveiling a Powerful Photography Exhibition on Gun Violence
MIAMI-DADE – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins, City of Miami Commissioner Sabina Covo, Miami-Dade School Board Member Lucia Baez-Geller, and Chief Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez III, Director of Miami-Dade Police Department, along with acclaimed photographer Kathy Shorr, will join a group of mothers who have lost their children to gun violence to unveil the “SHOT: We the Mothers Miami” exhibition on Monday, May 8, 9 a.m., at The Underline – Oolite Room, SW 1st Avenue between 11th and 12th Streets.
Partially funded by the Office of Commissioner Higgins, the exhibition consists of large-scale vinyl prints hung on the iron fence surrounding Southside Park (140 SW 11th St., Miami, FL 33130), featuring portraits, objects, and words connected to the deceased. The text is taken directly from the mothers' social media posts. The exhibition, which was first unveiled in Philadelphia and is traveling nationwide, aims to raise awareness about the impact of gun violence and the need for action in communities.
