Commissioner Eileen Higgins Reappointed to National Leadership Position on Transportation
MIAMI-DADE – National Association of Counties (NACo) President James Gore reappointed Miami-Dade County, Fla. Commissioner Eileen to another one-year term as Chair of NACo’s Transportation Policy Steering Committee. Gore, a Supervisor in Sonoma County, Calif., issued leadership appointments shortly after being sworn in as NACo’s president on July 15, at the conclusion of NACo’s annual conference, the nation’s largest convening of county leaders.
"I am honored to be reappointed as Chair of NACo’s Transportation Policy Steering Committee,” said Commissioner Eileen Higgins. “This role is particularly meaningful because it provides a platform to advocate for critical transportation issues that affect counties nationwide. I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with America’s counties as we leverage the historic Infrastructure Law investments through innovative strategies that address our shared transportation challenges. Whether it be for bridges, roads, transit systems, airports, or seaports, I am committed to securing continued robust federal transportation funding and leading efforts to shape the transportation policies that keep Americans moving in Miami-Dade County and beyond."
Active in NACo for several years, Higgins has served on the Transportation Policy Steering Committee as chair and vice chair, on the Leadership Advisory Council for the Counties for Economic Mobility program, and as a member of NACo’s Large Urban County Caucus and Housing Stability Task Force. In these capacities, she has been invited to testify before Congress on numerous occasions to advocate on behalf of counties across the U.S.
The Transportation Policy Steering Committee is responsible for all matters pertaining to federal transportation legislation, funding and regulation, and its impacts on county government. This includes highway and bridge development, finance and safety, public transit development and finance, transportation planning, airport development and service, passenger and freight railroads, ports and waterways, freight movement, and research and development of new modes of transportation.
