Promises Made, Promises Kept - Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera Announces Passage of Resolution to Enhance Miami-Dade County’s Transportation Plan

(Miami-Dade, FL) - Today, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera, aimed at strengthening Miami-Dade County's transportation plan. This resolution implements current practices into county policy, ensuring that surtax half penny funds are used to improve and maintain our local transportation system, meeting specific criteria approved by the voters in November 2002.

"By ensuring responsible resource management, we are demonstrating our dedication to building and maintaining a robust transit system that meets the needs of our residents," said Commissioner Cabrera. "This resolution affirms our commitment to following the will of the voters by utilizing resources efficiently and ensuring effective transportation solutions for our community, promoting connectivity and accessibility for all. Promises made, promises kept," added Commissioner Cabrera.

The resolution reinstates essential language that limits the use of Charter County Transportation System Surtax Funds to eligible county capital enhancements implemented after November 5, 2002. This adjustment also ensures that funds are properly allocated for the development and maintenance of Miami-Dade County's vital transportation infrastructure.
