Miami-Dade Takes Bold Action to Tackle Traffic

Miami-Dade, FL – Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution co-sponsored by Commissioners Kevin Marino Cabrera and Juan Carlos Bermudez paving the way for the completion of crucial upgrades to the county's Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS).

Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera stated, "This initiative is about giving people back valuable time—whether it’s spending more with family and friends or helping businesses run more smoothly. Reducing congestion will improve quality of life and boost our local economy." Cabrera continued, "We’re now set to deliver long-overdue upgrades to our traffic signals, implementing a system that adapts in real time to changing conditions—essential for cutting congestion and improving commutes across the county."

Under the new contract, the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) will see major upgrades across the county’s traffic signals. A minimum of 500 intersections will be updated each year with advanced controllers and software, improving traffic flow and safety. The project will also integrate vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian detection at intersections to adapt to real-time traffic conditions. These improvements are expected to reduce congestion, shorten commute times, and make daily travel more convenient and secure for Miami-Dade residents.
