Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee to deliver critical hurricane relief support to Florida’s West Coast

MIAMI-DADE – Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee is set to deliver urgently needed relief support to Florida’s West Coast in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Milton. As a survivor of Hurricane Andrew, Commissioner McGhee understands the long-lasting challenges faced by storm victims and is committed to ensuring that the hardest-hit communities receive the help they need.

Hurricane Milton, a Category 3 storm, inflicted severe damage across Florida’s West Coast, leaving thousands without homes, power, or clean water. The destruction caused widespread flooding and additional damage. Local officials report over 1,000 homes destroyed and countless deaths.

Commissioner McGhee has coordinated with state and local officials to deliver vital supplies, including food and water to sustain families who have lost access to basic necessities.

“When large-scale disasters like Hurricane Milton occur, it takes a statewide response to ensure life-sustaining food, water, and supplies are delivered in a timely manner and that communities have the resources they need to rebuild,” said Farm Share CEO Stephen Shelley. “Farm Share is grateful to Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kionne McGhee for his efforts to collect vital disaster relief supplies and ensure they are distributed to the hardest-hit areas.”

In collaboration with Farm Share, a nonprofit dedicated to distributing essential goods to communities in need, Commissioner McGhee will ensure that relief supplies reach the most affected areas. The coordinated effort has gained widespread support from both public and private sectors.

“As someone who survived Hurricane Andrew, I understand the overwhelming sense of loss and uncertainty that follows a disaster like this,” said Commissioner McGhee. “But I also know that with the right support, communities can recover and rebuild stronger than before. We will not let Florida’s West Coast face this challenge alone.”

Commissioner McGhee is calling on all Floridians to contribute to relief efforts and donate to trusted organizations. Commissioner McGhee will be visiting some of the affected areas in the coming days.

“Floridians have always shown strength and resilience in the face of adversity,” said Commissioner McGhee. “Together, we will rebuild and provide hope to those most affected by the storm.”
