MIAMI-DADE – Vice Chairman Kionne L. McGhee served as a toastmaster as he was honored for his unwavering commitment to mentorship, education, and community empowerment at the 32nd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast, hosted by the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project on Saturday, January 18, at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Founded by Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson in 1993, the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project has been a beacon of hope and transformation for young men of color, guiding them toward academic achievement, leadership, and success. Vice Chairman McGhee’s recognition underscores his dedication to breaking barriers and uplifting the next generation through advocacy and public service. The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project has expanded across Florida and beyond, impacting thousands of young men in Miami-Dade, Broward, Hillsborough, and other counties, as well as nationally in Detroit and Los Angeles, with international chapters emerging in the Bahamas.

“As a proud product of South Dade, I know firsthand the power of mentorship and opportunity,” said Vice Chairman McGhee. “To be recognized by Congresswoman Wilson and the 5000 Role Models of Excellence is an honor that reflects the collective work of so many in our community who believe in investing in our young men. Together, we are shaping the future.”

The event was held in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, honored outstanding community leaders and scholars who exemplify Dr. King’s legacy of service and equality. Vice Chairman McGhee, a longtime champion for youth empowerment, has continuously worked to expand educational resources, job opportunities, and prevention programs throughout Miami-Dade County. In addition to the recognition of community leaders, the event celebrated the Wilson Scholars, who are college-bound students from the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project who were awarded scholarships that cover their full college tuition, along with mentorship and a trip to Washington, D.C.
