Commissioner Diaz proposes partnership with UF to expand spay and neuter services
(MIAMI-DADE COUNTY) – Miami-Dade County’s efforts to reduce the pet overpopulation soon could get a boost from the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
On Tuesday, April 21, at the Board of County Commissioners meeting, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz is sponsoring a resolution to establish an interlocal agreement between UF’s veterinary college and the County’s Department of Animal Services to expand spay and neuter services in Miami-Dade. The partnership would allow the County to tap into various veterinary resources at the college, including students undergoing training to perform spay and neuter surgeries.
The County’s Department of Animal Services annually performs about 20,500 spay and neuter surgeries.
