Senator René García sounds the alarm on the proposed bond referendum
MIAMI-DADE – Senator René García, Miami-Dade County Commissioner for District 13, issued the following statement today regarding Mayor Daniella Levine Cava's proposal during the State of the County to place on the ballot a $2.5 BILLION bond referendum.
"The residents of Miami-Dade County are facing significant economic challenges from rising cost of living, lack of affordable housing, out-of-control homeowner insurance premiums, and growing interest rates. The proposed bond referendum reflects a serious disconnect with the reality of life that residents of our county must navigate daily. It is my sincere hope the Mayor reconsiders moving forward on this proposal. Property values in Miami-Dade County have increased significantly in the last two years, yielding greater revenue for local governments. The priority of Miami-Dade County should be focused on successfully completing pending housing projects, streamlining its current $10 billion budget, fulfilling promises already made for transportation infrastructure, and ensuring urgently needed and long overdue renovations at Miami International Airport are properly and timely completed. We need to ensure we identify where we can save the taxpayer money, not ask them for more."
