MIAMI-DADE – The recent movement of Russian naval ships towards Cuba, positioning them less than a hundred miles from Florida and the U.S. coastline, represents a significant and immediate threat to national security.

According to an AP article, The Admiral Gorshkov frigate is armed with new Zircon hypersonic missiles which Russian President Vladimir Putin has touted as a potent weapon capable of penetrating any existing anti-missile defenses. This is a serious concern for the safety and security of the United States, especially us here in South Florida.

Let’s be clear, Russia is not our friend and the proximity of these Russian naval ships to the U.S. coastline increases the risk of espionage, cyber-attacks, and other forms of hybrid warfare. “This situation is yet another show of irresponsibility and lapse in national security. Expressed concerns have fallen on deaf ears within the Biden administration. Just a few weeks ago, the administration allowed Cuban nationals to tour secure areas of Miami International Airport, a move that starkly highlights their disregard for national security,” stated Senator Garcia.
