On Saturday, May 30, 2015, a free outreach educational event is being held at the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science at 3280 South Miami Ave., Miami, FL 33129 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is sponsored by Florida International University’s International Hurricane Research Center, Florida Division of Emergency Management, the Museum of Science, Miami Dade College and Miami-Dade County’s Office of Emergency Management.
With the “Feel the Force: Hurricanes and other Hazards” event, families and children will be engaged with interactive displays and demonstrations illustrating the force of natural hazards and how personal preparedness, science, and emergency response agencies together can help protect the public from dangerous hazards.
Families will get to:
-play interactive, educational games dealing with weather science
-view a hurricane hunter plane cockpit and meet real Hurricane Hunters
-feel hurricane force winds in a simulator
-build and test model homes against hurricane force winds
-access disaster preparedness information
-interact with local television meteorologists and public safety professionals
-participate in an interactive TV Weather Studio
Parking is limited, and visitors are encouraged to use Metrorail, exiting at the Vizcaya station (Museum is across the street).
