MDFR FL-TF1 team returns home after Hurricane Ian deployment

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

(MIAMI, Oct. 11, 2022) – Members of Florida Task Force One (FL-TF1), Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s (MDFR) Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Team, will be returning to South Florida following their deployment to the barrier islands for Hurricane Ian.

The FL-TF1 was part of a 96-person Type 1 Task Force team that spent two weeks assisting with hurricane relief efforts, including search and rescue, reconnaissance, needs assessments, and evacuations.

“Our 96 members are heading back home today after completing various missions in the hardest-hit areas of the barrier islands, including rescues and evacuations,” said MDFR Fire Chief Raied Jadallah. “FL-TF1 has supplied local first responders with the additional resources and expertise needed to assist those who have been impacted by this ferocious storm on the southwest coast of Florida.”

Our MDFR US&R FL-TF1 Team is one of eight task force teams that has joined over a thousand search and rescue members to assist in the search and rescue efforts in the affected areas.

FL-TF1’s mission is to respond to natural and man-made disasters by providing search and rescue support, medical support, communications, damage assessment, and to coordinate the distribution of relief supplies. They have been deployed nationally and internationally for multiple disasters including the Oklahoma City bombing, World Trade Center collapse, Hurricane Katrina, earthquake responses in Colombia, Turkey, and Haiti, and, most recently, the building collapse in Surfside.

Media Note: Interviews will be available in English and Spanish.
