(MIAMI, March 9, 2023) - On Friday, March 10, 2023, at 10 a.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) will be conducting a hands-on canine first-aid and CPR training for K-9 handlers during the MDFR K-9 Foundation Crisis Response Workshop at our MDFR Training Center located in Doral, Florida.
This hands-on training is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of knowing how to administer CPR to dogs during an emergency.
The CPR training is only one part of a three-day series provided by MDFR personnel for members of the Crisis Response Teams from across the state of Florida. The MDFR Crisis Response K-9 Program is an extension of the MDFR Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Peer Support Program, which trains therapy K-9s in order to help mitigate traumatic stress and enhance firefighter emotional well-being whenever a mental health need arises. The program also provides trained personal service K-9s to interested personnel in order to alleviate depression, anxiety, etc. The MDFR Crisis Response K-9 Teams are an integral part of interventions and educational programs.
Media Note: Interviews will be available in English and Spanish.
