(MIAMI, May 11, 2015) – Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department’s (MDFR) Fireboat 1 and Air Rescue responded to a boating collision in the Intracostal Waterway near Monument Island Sunday, May 10, 2015, at 6:17 p.m.
According to witnesses, a personal water craft carrying a 30-year-old female and an 8-year-old male struck a boat and were thrown into the water. A good Samaritan nearby pulled the two victims into his boat. Firefighters from MDFR’s Fireboat 1 transferred the badly injured woman to their vessel and prepared her for a hoist operation by Air Rescue North. The female was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s (JMH) Ryder Trauma Center. The City of Miami Fireboat transported the child to JMH with minor injuries.
The cause of the crash is unknown and being investigated by Florida Fish and Wildlife officials.
