Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) will host the South Florida Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) Hazardous Materials (HazMat) exercise on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the MDFR Training Center 9300 NW 41 ST, beginning at 10 a.m.
This scenario based drill is intended to bring regional HazMat teams together to train for a major release of chlorine in a largely populated area. It is designed to familiarize teams with capabilities and equipment, enhance interoperability in the event of an emergency, and strengthen interagency communication.
The LEPC is tasked with developing an emergency plan to prepare for and respond to chemical emergencies. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) list of extremely hazardous substances helps provide focus for setting priorities in the planning effort that is reviewed annually, tested, and updated. LEPC's members represent the community and are familiar with factors that affect public safety, the environment, and the economy of the community.
