(MIAMI, Nov. 6, 2015) – The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is joining forces with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), and the Metro-Dade Firefighters Local 1403 for a weekend-long “Fill the Boot” drive that aims to collect $100,000.00 in donations by Monday, Nov. 9, 2015.
MDFR firefighters will be collecting donations for MDA at major intersections all weekend ,and into Monday throughout Miami-Dade County. “I encourage everyone to get out there and safely collect for this worthy cause,” said MDFR Chief Dave Downey. “I am certain that with everyone’s help, we can reach our goal, and perhaps surpass it.”
MDA provides medical clinics, support groups, summer camps, and various other services to patients and their families. The patients, if needed, are provided with wheelchairs, leg braces, breathing devices, speaking devices, and much more through MDA absolutely free of charge, thanks to generous donations made during events like “Fill the Boot.”
MDA and the International Association of firefighters (IAFF) have been partners in the fight against neuromuscular disease since 1954. The “Fill the Boot” campaign is one of the primary ways firefighters raise money for MDA.
