Miami-Dade Fire Rescue wins gold at the 2022 JEMS Games

(MIAMI, April 29, 2022) – Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) congratulates its team of firefighters/paramedics for winning the gold medal on Friday, April 29 at the 2022 JEMS Games held during the FDIC International 2022 Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

MDFR team members Capt. Alex Lozano, Capt. Michael Ung, and Lt. Desi Monteavaro brought home the gold after participating in the finals competition that simulated a structure pancake collapse during this year’s JEMS (The Journal of Emergency Medical Services) Games. Over the course of seven days, MDFR attended workshops and participated in simulations alongside world-class instructors. Additionally, the FDIC convention gave firefighters and professionals in the fire service the opportunity to learn and share with their peers innovative products and services in their industry.

“I am very proud of the team for participating and taking first place at the 2022 JEMS Games, and congratulate everyone on a job well done,” said MDFR Fire Chief Alan Cominsky. “As first responders, training and competing with other agencies allows us to keep our knowledge up to date within our field of expertise, which then translates into delivering unparalleled service to our community.”

With its forward-thinking approach focused on the future of EMS and operational leadership, the JEMS Games gives participants an opportunity to join fellow EMS and fire-rescue peers to learn, share, and network with the best in the field.
