RESOLUTION APPROVING THE STATE ROAD CODESIGNATION OF STATE ROAD 826/PALMETTO EXPRESSWAY FROM THE ON RAMP AT NW 154 STREET TO THE ON RAMP AT NW 67 AVENUE AS �JIM MANDICH MEMORIAL HIGHWAY�

WHEREAS, during the 2012 regular session, the Florida Legislature passed Chapter 2012-228, Laws of Florida (HB 7039), which among other codesignations, codesignated State Road 826/Palmetto Expressway from on ramp 87260330, which is the on ramp at NW 154 Street, to on ramp 87260333, which is the on ramp at NW 67 Avenue, as �Jim Mandich Memorial Highway�; and
WHEREAS, Jim Mandich was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 1970 and was an integral part of the team for more than four decades, both as a player and later as a broadcaster; and
WHEREAS, Jim Mandich earned three Super Bowl rings and was a successful businessman, as owner of Lotspelch, a Hialeah based construction company, and of Ziggie and Mad Dog�s Restaurant in Islamorada; and
WHEREAS, Jim Mandich passed away on April�26, 2011 after a long bout with cancer; and
WHEREAS, section 334.071, Florida Statutes, provides that the installation of state road designation signs shall be contingent on the applicable county or city commission passing a resolution in support of the particular honorary road designation; and
WHEREAS, State Road 826/Palmetto Expressway from the on ramp at NW 154 Street to the on ramp at NW 67 Avenue is a state road that lies partially in the Town of Miami Lakes and partially within unincorporated Miami-Dade County; and
WHEREAS, before the Florida Department of Transportation will install signs reflecting the �Jim Mandich Memorial Highway� road co-designation, both Miami-Dade County and the Town of Miami Lakes are required to pass a resolution in support of this road designation; and
WHEREAS, on May 8, 2012, the Town of Miami Lakes adopted Resolution No. 2012-983 which approved the codesignation of State Road 826/Palmetto Expressway from the on ramp at NW 154 Street to the on ramp at NW 67 Avenue as �Jim Mandich Memorial Highway�, a copy of which is attached and incorporated by reference; and
WHEREAS, this co-designation is located in County Commission District 13,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Approves the state road codesignation of State Road 826/Palmetto Expressway from the on ramp at NW 154 Street to the on ramp at NW 67 Avenue as �Jim Mandich Memorial Highway.�
Section 2. Directs the Clerk of the Board to send certified copies of this Resolution the United States Postal Service, the Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works and Waste Management Department, the Zoning and Platting Division of the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources, the Miami-Dade County Police Department, and the Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue Department.
