Careersource South Florida Executive Director Rick Beasley named President of U.S. Mayors Workforce Development Council

(MIAMI, February 20, 2015)  CareerSource South Florida Executive Director Rick Beasley was elected President of the United States Conference of Mayors Workforce Development Council (WDC) at the organization’s 83rd Winter Meeting last week in Washington D.C.

Beasley will lead the WDC for the next year and will continue the council’s efforts to provide a forum for Mayors and their employment and training administrators to examine all workforce development issues. The WDC will also strengthen the ability of cities to meet the needs of their citizens, particularly economically disadvantage individuals, those with serious skill deficiencies, displaced workers, returning veterans, and others with barriers to employment, including youth.

“Congratulations to Mr. Beasley on being elected President of the United States Conference of Mayors Workforce Development Council. This is an extraordinary honor, and it should be considered a vote of confidence in his leadership abilities and outstanding efforts on addressing workforce development issues in our community,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “Poverty is one of the key areas that must to be addressed in our community and Miami-Dade County government together with Mr. Beasley, CareerSource South Florida and others are working every day to address it through our “Employ Miami-Dade Initiative.”  I look forward to continuing to work with Mr. Beasley to improve the lives of the residents we serve as we continue to turn the corner by reducing unemployment and setting the conditions for economic development in our community.”
