Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez appoints new department directors
(MIAMI, May 28, 2015) – Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez has appointed Inson Kim as the Director of Community Information and Outreach Department and Tara Smith as the Director of Internal Services Department (ISD).
“Inson has continued to succeed as she has grown in responsibility,” Mayor Gimenez said. “With her knowledge, skill set and work ethic, I have full confidence that she will successfully lead the Community Information and Outreach Department.”
In November 2014, Ms. Kim was promoted to her current role as the Director of Intergovernmental and External Affairs in the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources. In this capacity, Ms. Kim is responsible for all legislative and intergovernmental activities, and the department’s internal and external communications. Prior to this role, Inson was the Director of Policy and Legislative Affairs for the Office of the Mayor where she was responsible for managing all legislative priorities and matters related to the County's intergovernmental affairs, charter review, agenda office, agenda coordination, and the offices of the Property Appraiser, Commission Auditor, Inspector General and the Commission on Ethics and Public Trust. Ms. Kim began her County career at the Miami-Dade Aviation Department as a Public Information Officer. She went on to serve as the Senior Policy Analyst for the District 7 Commission Office.
Before joining Miami-Dade County in 2004 as a Management Trainee, Ms. Smith worked in the nonprofit sector managing a program within the juvenile justice system. After obtaining a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, she joined Miami-Dade County and has risen through the ranks of leadership. As an employee in the County Manager’s Office, she was able to gain a broad understanding of County operations. In 2007, she joined the Department of Elections as Chief Deputy Supervisor of Elections, managing the largest elections operation in the state and supporting three presidential elections. She was later appointed as part of the County’s Management Watch Team to work with the Jackson Health System.
“Tara has held a number of leadership positions at ISD since 2013, with the most recent being Assistant Director with oversight of some of the most critical areas of the department,” Mayor Gimenez said. “I look forward to continuing to work with her.”
Both appointments are effective immediately.
