Statement from Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez

(MIAMI, August 4, 2015) – "Fifty years ago this week, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act into law. The legislation is one of the most significant ever approved by Congress and its enactment has guaranteed that all Americans have the right to vote and choose their leaders. Here in Miami-Dade County, the mission of the Department of Elections has always been to register voters, promote engagement in the democratic process and expand voting opportunities throughout our County. I applaud the department's efforts and join them today in reflecting on this landmark legislation."
