Deadline Extended to File your Property Tax Exemption

Miami-Dade County, FL – The property tax filing deadline was on Tuesday, March 1, 2022; however, you may still file for your property tax benefits. The application process now includes an “Extenuating Circumstance Form”, which will need to be filled out along with a regular application. This form requires all property owners filing after March 1, 2022 to detail the reasons why they are filing late.

Property Appraiser Pedro J. Garcia continues to urge all property owners to file for their benefits, such as homestead, senior, veterans and many other exemptions to help reduce their property taxes, especially those who many have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Those who have not had an opportunity to file for Homestead or Portability may still be able to do so online or by scheduling an appointment online to visit our offices. Applications, including the Extenuating Circumstances Form, can be found at www.miamidade.gov/pa.

“This is the time where property owners should review additional exemptions that may provide long term tax savings. If property owners believe they qualify for an exemption, I strongly encourage them to visit us at one of our locations or apply online by visiting our website at www.miamidade.gov/PA. They still have time,” said Property Appraiser Garcia.

Property owners who have questions or concerns about their exemption(s) status can visit our website at www.miamidade.gov/pa or make an appointment online to visit in person at our offices in Downtown Miami (111 NW 1st Street, Suite 710) and South Dade Government Center (10710 SW 211th Street, 2nd Floor), Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
