Free Lecture at the Deering Estate At Cutler: ''The Archaeology, Architecture, Art and Culture of Andalusia, Spain''


(MIAMI, October 16, 2014) - In partnership with the Archaeological Society of Southern Florida, the Deering Estate at Cutler presents a free lecture on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Lectures are held in the Visitor Center Theatre at the Deering Estate at Cutler located at 16701 SW 72 Avenue. The lectures are free and open to the public.

The November ASSF lecture features the Andalusian cities of Seville, Cordoba, and Granada, as well as the Roman and Arabian archaeological sites of Italica and the ancient Caliphate, “Madinat of Al-Zahara.” This presentation will also highlight the archaeological museums of these magnificent cities. Also included are the images of, “Semana Santa,” Easter week festivities in Seville, and the beautiful annual Flower Festival of Cordoba. Cathedrals, alcazars (Caliphate palaces,) and the extraordinary Arabic Alhambra Palace will delight your vision.

Professor Mario Ferrante has over 18 years of experience as a Science Museums Director of Exhibits and Curator of Natural History and Archaeological artifacts. His lecturing experience includes teaching at Nova University, Florida International University and Miami Dade College. Born in Vienna, Austria, he speaks fluent English, Spanish, German and Italian languages.

The Deering Estate at Cutler, a Miami-Dade County Park, is located at 16701 SW 72 Avenue in Miami. This 444-acre natural and archeological preserve and historic site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a center for education, culture and recreation. Historic house tours are offered daily at 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Natural areas tours are offered daily at 12:30 p.m. (October through May).
