Miami-Dade County Parks and Target Present a Free Live Concert by Miami's Favorite Salsa Diva Lucy Grau
(MIAMI, November 7, 2014) It’s time to put on your dancing shoes. Miami’s own Cuban-American salsa diva Lucy Grau will perform her “salsalicous” bilingual renditions of the ‘70s disco hits “Last Dance” and “On the Radio” and a medley of American and Latin favorites with a tropical salsa twist, as part of the free Noches Tropicales concert at Tropical Park on Friday, December 5, 2014. The concert starts at 8 p.m. and admission and parking are free. The event offers great fun for all ages and makes for a perfect family night out with the kids. Guests are advised to bring along a blanket, chairs and snacks to better enjoy the festivities. This is the first of three, free family-style concerts in the 2014-2015 Noches Tropicales concert series presented by the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and sponsored by Target. The Noches Tropicales series was founded by Miami-Dade County District 10 Commissioner, Senator Javier D. Souto.
Grau is described as a true vocalist, personality and performer, delivering an original and thrilling salsa music experience. Her powerhouse voice has earned her the title “Lucy La Voz” (Lucy the Voice). In 2012, she launched her remake of “Last Dance”, in memorial to her favorite female singer, disco legend Donna Summer. Grau’s single received international acclaim and was followed by the release of her first salsa album “Alocada” (Wild), the following year. The album is all Grau, melding a new generation of salsa vocals and rhythms with a diverse repertoire of songs and genres popularized by top American and Latin music artists. Standout songs include “On the Radio” (Summer), “Killing Me Softly” (Roberta Flack), “Dime Corazon” (“Tell Me Heart” - Amaury Gutierrez), and the vintage Cuban ballad "El Solar", which the singer added as a personal reflection on her Cuban roots.
She has shared the stage with some of Latin music’s greats, including Celia Cruz, Olga Guillot, Andy Garcia, Tito Nieves, Elvis Crespo, Eddie Santiago, Hansel & Raul, Miles Pena, and Tito El Bambino. Her musical accolades include three years on the Miami Latin television show "Tropicalisimo". The show earned Grau a large fan following and an “Ambiente" award, recognizing her as one of Miami’s favorite singers.
Miami-Dade Parks kicked off its free Noches Tropicales 2014-2015 concert season with a star-studded Latin Gala concert at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium (MDCA) on October 17. The Gala concert was led by American Grammy Award-winning music sensation Marlow Rosado and La Riqueña band. The gala event was sponsored by Target, the Knight Foundation, Samsung Galaxy, Bacardi, Publix Sabor, Coca-Cola, and T-Mobile.
The 2014-2015 Noches Tropicales concerts at Tropical Park are sponsored by Target and will include: Carlos Oliva and his band Los Sobrinos del Juez (February 13); and an “ALL STARS” Concert featuring the Grammy Award-winning Edwin Bonilla, the legendary Andy Harlow, Daniel Berroa, Robert Heredia, Pete Francis, Rainier Guerra, Lucy Grau, Elaine Hernandez, Willie Panama, Javier Merino, Jr., and El Jibarito, with musical director Kiki Sanchez (March 20).
Please be advised that Noches Tropicales concert performers are subject to change. In the event of rain concerts may be cancelled.
