Red Dot Art Fair going Green with Million Trees Miami

National Art Show to Help Increase Miami-Dade County’s Tree Canopy

(MIAMI, December 1, 2014) The Red Dot Art Fair has pledged $1 per ticket sold of this year’s show to elevate the Million Trees Miami mission of achieving a 30 percent tree canopy and to help extend the impact of Art Basel week. Tomorrow night as Red Dot Art Fair debuts its 2014 collection, VIPs will be reminded of the value of Miami-Dade County’s legacy masterpieces—trees.

“Red Dot’s long-term commitment to the community is commendable,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “It’s encouraging to know that every piece of art purchased at this leading art show will benefit Miami-Dade.”

The Red Dot Art Fair, a 50,000-square-foot show located at the corner of 31st Street and NE 1st Avenue in Midtown Miami, is celebrating its eight year from December 2-7. With more than 60 participating galleries, Red Dot welcomes more than 25,000 visitors.

“We are thrilled to partner with Million Trees Miami,” said George Billis, Director of Red Dot Art Fair. “Many of our partners support us because Miami is such a beautiful community and we are doing our part to ensure that it stays that way.”

CIAB launched the Million Trees Miami initiative in 2011 with the intent of empowering individuals and organizations to plant one million trees and expand the tree canopy of Miami-Dade by 2020. Recent studies show the existing Miami-Dade tree canopy is only about 14 percent. “It’s wonderful to see Red Dot invest in the greening of our community, said Community Image Advisory Board Chairman and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Dennis C. Moss. “We are glad to see that Art Basel visitors will be exposed to the importance of trees thanks to Red Dot Art Fair’s example.”

Million Trees Miami will be a featured participant in Red Dot Art Fair’s opening reception. To support Red Dot, members of the CIAB, Million Trees Miami’s parent organization, have designed the landscaping for the event and secured donated trees from Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. Tickets to Red Dot Art Fair can be purchased on site. For more information regarding the fair, visit www.reddotfair.com.
