Miami-Dade County Parks' Winter Break Camps Registration Underway
Camps are fun, affordable and help kids stay active in the great outdoors!
(MIAMI, December 3, 2014) - Don’t let your kids get stuck on the couch channel surfing and loading up on junk food during the Winter School Recess. Help them to stay active, connect to nature and make the most of their off-school time by enrolling them in one of the many fun-filled and affordable Winter Break Camps offered by the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department. Registration is currently underway.
Miami-Dade County Parks Winter Break Camps will be held December 22, 2014 through January 2, 2015 (closed Christmas/New Year’s Day), Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with early drop-off available at 7:30 a.m. and late pick-up until 6:00 p.m.
General Camp programs will thrill and challenge youngsters, ages 6-14, with a variety of activities from fitness, sports, and arts and crafts to games and exciting field trips.
There are also Specialized Camps, which focus on a specific interest or need, including camps for nature and wildlife-lovers like Zoo Miami’s “Winter Break Daze” Camp, Miami EcoAdventuresTM Camps at A.D. “Doug” Barnes Park, Greynolds Park, and the Deering Estate at Cutler. For aspiring young golfers looking to learn the game or hone their skills, Miami-Dade County Parks offers Junior Golf Camps at four of its golf courses – Greynolds Golf Course, the Country Club of Miami Golf Course, the Palmetto Golf Course, and the Crandon Golf Course.
Prices for camps vary. Parents are required to register their child for General Program Camps through online registration at www.miamidade.gov/parks, where the entire list of camp sites is also found. Some Specialized Camps may require in-person registration. The public may also call a participating park or 3-1-1 for the Miami-Dade County Information Hotline.

Winter Break Camps for Nature and Wildlife Lovers:
“WINTER BREAK DAZE” AT ZOO MIAMI (AGES 4-10)
Zoo Miami’s “Winter Break Daze” Camp will be held Dec. 22 - Jan. 2, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (Dec. 24 and 31, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.; closed Christmas/New Year’s Day). This camp is designed to immerse children ages 4-10 into the world of wildlife and conservation. Join us for a fun-filled learning adventure that includes live animal presentations, visits to animal exhibits, interactions with zookeepers, wildlife enrichment activities, and much more! Camp provides children with unique opportunities to discover the wonders of our South Florida ecosystem with outdoor activities such as trail hikes and wildlife encounters. Camp session: Dec. 22, 23, 26, 29, 30, and Jan. 2. Camp hours are 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. The cost is $133/six-day session (or $33 daily), plus a one-time annual registration fee of $12. DEERING ESTATE AT CUTLER (AGES 6-15)
At the Deering Estate at Cutler, children will explore this magnificent historic Estate and archeological preserve and learn about its unique natural surroundings. Two, three-day sessions: Session 1: Dec. 22, 23 and 26; Session 2: December 29, 30 and January 2. Camp hours are 7:30 am – 5:00 pm. Each day is a different theme. Session 1: “Avian Adventures” (Dec. 22); “Natures Nest” (Dec. 23); and “Birds of a Feather” (Dec. 26); Session 2: “Fur and Flippers” (Dec. 29); “Call of the Wild” (Dec. 30); and “Migration across the Nation” (Jan. 2). JUNIOR GOLF CAMP AT THE GREYNOLDS GOLF COURSE (AGES 6-14)
The camp provides PGA Professional golf instruction for junior golfers, ages 6-14, that covers five subjects: Golf Etiquette and Rules; Posture, Grip and Alignment; Short Games (Chipping/Putting); Full-Swing (In Practice Area); and On-Course Play. The camp is taught by PGA Professional Larry Levow and the Whole Game Golf School and covers golf fundamentals, full-swing and short game instruction for junior golfers, ages 8-15 (or younger with previous golf experience). Two Sessions – Session 1: Dec. 22-24; Session 2: Dec. 29-31. Camp hours: Half-day, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.; Full-day, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The cost is $155/half-day session and $235/full-day session.
