Birdhouse Build & Design Exhibit at the Deering Estate at Cutler
(MIAMI, December 12, 2014) - The reception for a special outdoor Birdhouse Build & Design Exhibit will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Deering Estate at Cutler. The Exhibit Evening is free and open to the public. Light refreshments and a cash bar will be available. The exhibit is on display daily, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., through January 29th and is free with regular Estate admission.
Partnering with Miami-Dade College’s Dr. Lyle Culver and his Architecture History, Design and Landscape Construction classes, and community students, the Estate will showcase this outdoor exhibition of specially designed functional and historically themed birdhouses. Culver engaged 70 of his students from his architecture history, design and landscape construction classes to create a variety of birdhouses.
“The students were able to develop their own creations based upon their own inspirations,” said Culver of the collaborative effort between Miami-Dade College and the Deering Estate. “The landscape construction students were asked to design and build free standing projects that could accommodate a host of birds.”
Concurrently, the Exhibit Evening will feature the Youth Arts Exhibit & Holiday Wonderland. The Youth Arts Exhibit is a community collaboration in which creative and diverse works by student artists (Grades K-12) are displayed in one of Miami-Dade’s rich cultural landmarks, the Deering Estate at Cutler. A special feature this year is Youth artwork from the Ceramic League of Miami. The Holiday Wonderland is an annual tradition and a special project curated by local garden clubs and community organizations in which the historic houses are adorned with holiday decorations. A series of special events will accompany both exhibits throughout the month of December.

Exhibit Evenings at the Deering Estate The Deering Estate at Cutler offers complementary exhibit viewing nights, highlighting a variety of contemporary, historic, and visiting exhibitions inside the Historic homes. Exhibit Evenings are free of charge and offer the public a chance to interact with artists and curators and to experience a variety of exhibit tours and talks. Exhibit Evenings are held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on the third Wednesdays per annual schedule.

The Deering Estate at Cutler, a Miami-Dade County Park, is located at 16701 SW 72 Avenue in Miami. This 444-acre natural and archeological preserve and historic site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a center for education, culture and recreation.
