Miami-Dade County celebrates the annual ''Bike305 Month'' with family-friendly bicycle-themed activities and rides
(MIAMI, February 20, 2015) - It’s Miami-Dade’s Bike305 season and it’s all about cycling, as the County gears up for the annual Bike305 Month celebration on March 1. During the month of March, residents are encouraged to try cycling to work, school and other destinations, as an alternative to driving on congested roadways. Cycling is a great way to exercise and see some of Miami-Dade’s scenic sites via safe, protected paved bike trails throughout the county.
Bike305 Month is full of bike-friendly activities, community bike rides and signature events, such as the presentation of the “Bike305 Month Proclamation” by Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez and the Board of County Commissioners (March 3), “Bike to Work Day” (March 6), “Bike The Underline” (March 21), and “Happy Trails Day” (March 28).
Bike305’s 17 partnering municipalities include: Coral Gables; Cutler Bay; Doral; El Portal; Homestead; Key Biscayne; Miami; Miami Beach; Miami Gardens; Miami Shores; Miami Springs; North Miami; Palmetto Bay; Pinecrest; South Miami; Surfside; and Sunny Isles Beach. Partnering businesses include: Mack Cycle and Fitness; Manny Miranda – State Farm Agent; No Boundries; Miami Hitches; and Shell Lumber.
Bike305 partner-sponsored events will include: “Gables Bike Day,” Palmetto Bays “Bike with the Mayor and Annual Picnic,” “Pinecrest Bike Day,” Homestead’s “Biscayne-Everglades Greenways Bicycle Festival,” and the “Vizcaya to Virginia Key Bike Ride.”
Included in the March calendar are special group rides by year-round Bike305 partners, like The Everglades Bicycle Club’s “Snowbird Century.” In addition, the Coral Gables Museum will present unique bicycle-themed exhibits in March, featuring “ARTCycle” and “The Underline.”
