The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) is pleased to announce that Sergeant Frank Farinas has been awarded the departmental Employee Excellence Award and selected as Distinguished Officer of the Month for April 2024.
Sergeant Farinas has been employed with the MDPD for 25 years and has spent the past eight years assigned to the Agricultural & Environmental Crimes Section (ACES), where he has distinguished himself. In 2019 he established the duties of Illegal Dumping investigations within the ACES. Additionally, as the Section evolved and the number of assigned investigations increased, he worked closely with the command staff to create the current Agricultural Investigations Unit (AIU), which concentrated on follow-up investigations of agricultural nature. This was a huge step towards the successful arrest and prosecution of thieves targeting the agricultural community.
He has also been the liaison between the farming community and the MDPD attending on a monthly basis several meetings held by the Dade County Farm Bureau, Agricultural Practices Advisory Board, Avocado Committee and Tropical Fruit Growers. He has also been the point of contact for Crime Stoppers and the section, commonly known as "Ag Patrol."
His initiative and dedication to the protection of the entire agricultural community and in looking for more solvability probability of ongoing investigative cases, led him to introduce the use of Google Warrants to those cases. This practice has yielded positive results and is currently being used by all investigators within the Section. His dedication to the agricultural community and willingness to serve is evident and clear. His selfless efforts, even when those left little time for yourself in helping those in need are a testament to his integrity, faith, and moral values. His availability to resolve issues at hand, bring people together and his cooperative sense of teamwork is a model for others to follow. As he heads into retirement this year, we all wish him and his family any blessings and prosperity.
