The Miami-Dade Police Department, will host the Annual South Florida Firearm and Toolmark Discipline Meeting. During this meeting, multiple agencies will have the opportunity to exchange information and discuss current practices, standard operating procedures, policies, current issues, and new technology. In addition, there will be presentations provided by crime laboratory staff from the Miami-Dade Police Department, Broward Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
ATF will present their mobile National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) vehicle, which will be available for demonstrations. This new mobile prototype enhances the ability for real-time solutions by responding to crime scenes and test fire weapons and evidence casings, allowing the information to be immediately entered in the NIBIN. Once entered in the NIBIN system, investigators can determine the association of casings and guns in a crime scene. Subsequently, providing investigative leads that can identify offenders involved in homicides, sexual batteries, robberies, and other violent crimes.
