According to investigators, the detective was conducting a narcotics investigation and was attempting to arrest an individual. As he was attempting to effect the arrest, an unknown subject ambushed the detective from behind and shot him in the back of the head. The subject then fled in a northwest direction.The officer was transported to Ryder Trauma Center where he was treated and later released. Responding officers detained the individual the detective was initially attempting to arrest.  A perimeter was immediately established with the assistance of the City of Miami Police Department. Director Freddy Ramirez said "I will utilize all of the resources of MDPD to take this individual into custody". The search remains active, and the subject is still at large. He is considered armed and dangerous. If anyone knows the whereabouts or makes contact with this individual, we urge them to call 911.

The investigation continues.. 

UPDATE #1: As investigators continued to follow all leads, they learned that the subject was hiding in a residence located at 501 NW 42 Street. The subject was observed attempting to leave the residence and was apprehended without incident.  A search warrant for the residence was obtained and executed by the MDPD Special Response Team.  Once they gained entry,  they discovered three males inside.  The subject along with the other males were transported to the Homicide Bureau where they were charged accordingly.
