West Venetian bascule bridge to close on midnight, June 1, 2015
(MIAMI, May 29, 2015) – The West Venetian Bascule Bridge will be completely closed to all vehicular, pedestrian and cyclist traffic starting at midnight on June 1, 2015. Construction, and the bridge closure, are expected to last nine months.
Because there will be no access to the Venetian Causeway from the mainland, motorists wishing to travel to Miami Beach and the Venetian islands from mainland Miami will need to use either the MacArthur Causeway (I-395) or the Julia Tuttle Causeway (I-195). Pedestrians and bicyclists may wish to consider using Miami-Dade Transit; please visit the Transit website at www.miamidade.gov/transit or call 3-1-1 for routes and schedules.
During the construction period, the East Venetian Bascule Bridge will be closed to marine traffic to ensure that vehicular traffic will be able to access and depart from the Venetian Causeway while emergency repairs are completed on the West Venetian Bascule Bridge. The West Venetian Bascule Bridge will remain open to marine traffic.
