Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez signs Executive Order closing Adult Day Cares

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez signed an Executive Order on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 to close all Adult Day Cares in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus. This order goes into effect at 11:59 p.m. on Friday April 3, 2020.

Miami-Dade County staff have been directed to take all appropriate measures to provide services to the elderly during the duration of this order. Such measures may include the purchase of goods and services, including, but not limited to, food services, personal protective equipment, delivery services, and refrigerated vehicles, without competitive solicitation as authorized by the Governor’s Executive Order Number 20-52 and the existing Miami-Dade County State of Local Emergency.This Emergency Order applies to all Adult Day Cares within the unincorporated and incorporated areas of the County.

Staff employed at such sites may continue business operations that do not involve the delivery of personal services to the elderly population. 

These closures also do not apply to Assisted Living Facilities as defined under section 429.02 of the Florida Statutes or Nursing Homes as defined in section 400.021.

This executive order will help ensure the health and safety of those most at risk of contracting COVID-19, including seniors and those with pre-existing health conditions, such as heart, lung and respiratory diseases, diabetes and cancer.
