Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez signs clarifying amendment to Emergency Order closing Adult Day Care Centers
Centers’ staff can continue to provide essential services off-site to Medicaid-enrolled elderly, such as home-delivered meals, medication management.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez signed an amendment to Emergency Order 16-20 on Saturday, April 4, 2020, to clarify that staff at Adult Day Care Centers that have been ordered closed can continue to provide essential services to the elderly at their homes.
Those essential services can include – but are not limited to – home-delivered meals, respite care, medication management, in-home personal care, telephone reassurance and other services based on guidelines by the state Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) and the Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA).
Miami-Dade County staff is available to conduct any necessary follow-up with AHCA, DOEA and the local Aging network to address any potential gaps in meeting the needs of our residents who depend on Adult Day Care services.
Seniors who were receiving Medicaid services at day care centers should contact their assigned case manager. Providers or Medicaid enrollees can also contact AHCA’s Medicaid Helpline at 1-877-254-1055 (TDD 1-866-467-4970).
This Emergency Order continues to apply to all Adult Day Cares within the unincorporated and incorporated areas of the County.
These closures do not apply to Assisted Living Facilities as defined under section 429.02 of the Florida Statutes or Nursing Homes as defined in section 400.021.
This order will help ensure the health and safety of those most at risk of contracting COVID-19, including seniors and those with pre-existing health conditions, such as heart, lung and respiratory diseases, diabetes and cancer.
